RP.1: American Wasteland
LIVE PERFORMANCE
by Jet Le Parti
1v1
MW2 Tournament
3.29 @ 12pm
67 West St
A live performance piece extending American Wasteland into its second day. The exhibition examines the militant visual language, the psychological terrain of the War on Terror, and the aesthetics of American violence. It reckons with how cultural objects like Modern Warfare II packaged the apparatus of global conflict as a competitive leisure activity, distributing it at scale to a generation lacking the critical framework to dissect it. This piece activates those concepts live, inside a room actively processing the fallout of that era.
What hasn’t been part of the public conversation around the work is Jet Le Parti’s direct relationship to this material. In a lesser-known chapter of his life, long before his current practice, the artist came up in this exact ecosystem. Participating in early MLG and GameBattles circuits across Modern Warfare II, Black Ops I, and Modern Warfare 3, he ultimately became a semi-professional player before the age of fifteen. The visual and psychological conditions interrogated in the exhibition are not detached research—they are the residue of his formative environment.
1V1 Rust Quickscope returns to that site. Staged on original PS3 hardware, the artist opens the exhibition to direct participation, taking on challengers in heads-up wager matches throughout the afternoon. Wager and friendly matches are guaranteed and open to all registered participants. Depending on interest and flow, the format will scale into a full open tournament—where the winner takes $1,000 USD and a signed Jet Le Parti / Reign.925 edition work (if tournament transpires).
